People call Suluada the Maldives of Turkey, and one look at the water explains why: over the pale sandy seabed it turns a shade of turquoise the mainland simply does not produce. The uninhabited island lies off Adrasan, down the coast from Antalya, and can only be reached by boat.
This is the long, worthwhile version of an island day — around eleven hours door to door. Pickup covers central Antalya as well as Kemer and Beldibi, the road follows the coast to Adrasan, and from there the boat takes over, cruising past pine-clad cliffs and inlets no road has ever reached.
The anchor drops in a string of sheltered coves — calm Domuz Bay and the island's twin beaches among them — for swimming and snorkelling, with masks and pool floats already on board. A grilled lunch is served on deck, and an experienced local crew runs the whole day.
Confident swimmers get the most out of the clear water, but non-swimmers are genuinely welcome — plenty of guests spend the anchor stops happily on deck. Wear flat, non-slip shoes for moving around the boat, and note that fishing gear can be hired on board as an optional extra.
